29th Annual Best Compliance Practices Forum

October 17 – 18, 2024

WHERE: Virtual

For 28 years, the Best Practices Forum has been the place where outstanding compliance accomplishments are recognized and shared. In most of those years, one individual has been named as a Fellow of the Health Ethics Trust. These 24 individuals are the best and brightest in healthcare compliance. At this year’s Forum on October 17 and 18, the Trust will name John Kelly, Chair of the Healthcare Department and Industry Practice at Barnes and Thornburg, LLP, as the 2024 Fellow of the Trust. John’s accomplishments in compliance over his career are estimable. Before entering private practice, John had a distinguished career with the U.S. Department of Justice where he served as the Assistant Chief for Healthcare Fraud and managed fraud cases while supervising agents and prosecutors nationwide. His name is on many of the signature cases in healthcare fraud.

John leads more than 100 attorneys across 23 offices focused on providing legal services to healthcare clients. In addition, John handles a wide range of matters including defending clients in False Claims Act investigations and providing compliance program advice. He is recognized as the national leader in understanding the compliance profile of Medicare Advantage. Years ago, when John joined the Trust’s programs, he was a lone voice in explaining such a then esoteric topics as risk adjustment. As Medicare Advantage has overtaken traditional Medicare, his career and reputation have exploded. He has been quoted in such publications as The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Reuters, Bloomberg News, and Modern Healthcare. John gives freely of his time to train young lawyers and compliance professionals. The Trust is honored to name John as the 2024 Fellow of the Trust.

The Forum was established in 1995 by the Health Ethics Trust in cooperation with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It’s purpose is to highlight practices that can be shared nationally. This year’s awards reflect compliance program practices related to current topics of concern. We will announce award winners over the next several weeks.

The Forum confers 16 CEUs for Health Ethics Trust credentials (CCP, CCE) and normally carries similar credits for other recognized certifications.

We keep Forum tuition low to encourage broad participation and, as always, and tuition scholarships can be accessed by calling 703-509-3734.
