27th Annual Best Compliance Practices Forum

The 27th Annual Healthcare: Best Compliance Practices Forum is being conducted (virtual) on October 20 – 21. Since 1995, the Forum has recognized 220 Best Compliance Practices. Each Best Practice is presented in detail at the Forum. This year over 100 practices were submitted with 10 selected as Best Practices.

The Forum was established in 1995 by the Health Ethics Trust in cooperation with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

This year’s awards reflect compliance program practices related to current topics of concern. Four 2022 Best Practices have been announced and two more are announced below.

In addition to Best Practices, the Forum includes presentations by nationally leading compliance professionals. This year’s faculty, to be announced Monday, is one of our best. 

The Forum confers 16 CEUs for Health Ethics Trust credentials (CCP, CCE); credit for HCCA/CCB credentials is pending.

2022 Best Practices Award Winners

As the Best Practices Forum approaches, we announce winners of Best Practice Awards. We have already announced awards to UPMC Insurance Services,WPS Health Solutions, Health Care Service Corporation, and the Moffitt Cancer Center.

Intermountain Healthcare will win a Award for Growth & Acquisition Compliance Program Implementation. The Compliance function is not always at the table when growth and acquisition decisions are made. Then a need abruptly arises to export the compliance program to the added areas. Intermountain’s Best Practice provides a way to effectively accomplish this. 

The Moffitt Cancer Center will win a (second) Best Practice award for  Research Financial Compliance. Research compliance poses significant compliance risks to host organizations – including committing outright Medicare fraud. Understanding the financial side of research protocols is a is a complex task effectively addressed by Moffitt’s Best Practice submission.

Compliance Program Assessors Course

Compliance program assessment is a recognized component of an effective compliance program as documented in standards promulgated by the US Department of Justice, the US Sentencing Commission and the DHHS OIG. The Health Ethics Trust has assessed hundreds of compliance programs over the past 25 years and has offered the  Program Assessors Course throughout this period.

Attendees not only gain practical experience in assessing compliance programs; they also learn how to bench mark and score compliance programs. Benchmarking is key to the credibility of a program assessment with executive management and the board.

Those who successfully complete the Assessors Course are qualified to serve in the Trust’s Compliance Program Certification process as peer reviewers.

This one-day intensive course is next offered on December 8. Because of the interactive nature of this course, enrollment is limited. There is information concerning this program at Assessors.
