27th Annual Best Compliance Practices Forum

| October 20-21, 2022

WHERE: Virtual

The 27th Annual Healthcare: Best Compliance Practices Forum will be conducted as a virtual event October 20 – 21. Since 1995, the Forum has recognized 220 Best Compliance Practices. Each Best Practice is presented in detail at the Forum. This year over 100 practices were submitted with 10 being recognized as Best Practices.

The Forum was established in 1995 by the Health Ethics Trust in cooperation with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

This year’s awards reflect compliance program practices related to current topics of concern. Last week two of these practices were announced and two more are announced below. Several practices were implemented in response to the rigorous standards of DOJ’s June 2020 guidance.

In addition to Best Practices, the Forum includes presentations by leading compliance professionals from across the country.

The Forum confers 16 CEUs for Health Ethics Trust credentials (CCP, CCE) and credit for HCCA/CCB credentials is pending.

Forum tuition is low to encourage participation and, as always, there are tuition scholarships which can be accessed by calling 703-509-3734.

2022 Best Practices Award Winners

As the Best Forum approaches, we announce winners of Best Practice Awards. Last week we announced awards to UPMC Insurance Services and WPS Health Solutions.

Health Care Service Corporation, one of our largest health plans, will win a Award for its Management Tools for Handling Employee Concerns practiceMost high compliance organizations encourage employees to start the compliance reporting process by raising concerns with their supervisors or managers. But we do not train supervisors and managers to handle the reports they receive. There is no way to know how many compliance reports to managers never make it to the compliance function. This practice provides a detailed approach for preparing supervisors and managers to handle compliance reports.

This week’s second Best Practice is Moffitt Cancer Center’s Research Financial Compliance practice. Research compliance is a world unto itself. But one aspect of this area may lead to fraud and abuse of general compliance concern. This is especially true of organizations without large research profiles. The process of billing for care received during a trial is complex and can easily lead to fraud against Medicare. This Practice details how one organization tackles this thorny problem.

More Best Practice Award winners will be announced in the coming days
